What's STOP FOR ART?

WHAT IS STOP FOR ART?

The STOP FOR ART project is a series of temporary art installations showcasing the collaborative works of eighteen Queensland College of Art students on the Goodwill Bridge, South Brisbane from Saturday 26 May to Tuesday 29 May, at various times between 7am–5pm.

The Goodwill Bridge is a free walking/cycling bridge with a considerable volume of diverse human traffic, including corporate professionals, students, families and tourists. Through our artworks we intend to entice, distract, interact and engage this audience, causing them to deter from their methodical behaviour in this space. We also aim to promote art outside of a traditional display environment and challenge concepts and constraints of public space.

The different collaborative pieces will encourage public interaction through ideas of travel and portable art, the connection between art and play, challenging the concept of art being for an elitist audience, investigating the notion of the body as a vehicle and creating awareness about domestic violence.

This event will promote Griffith University’s College of Art’s presence in the city and the artists it represents. It will also expose a large unsuspecting audience to the emerging art scene in Brisbane and create an opportunity to view art in an unconventional area.
